Welcome to Vanilla. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Vanilla mobile application ("App") and any related services provided by Vanilla ("we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Use of the App

Vanilla is a grocery list management and meal planning app for iOS. You may use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree to:

  • Use the App only for lawful purposes
  • Provide accurate information when creating an account
  • Keep your account credentials secure and confidential
  • Not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or modify the App
  • Not use the App to harass, abuse, or harm other users
  • Not attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts

2. Accounts

To access certain features, you must create an account using a valid email address and password. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. You may also use the App as a guest with limited functionality.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or engage in fraudulent activity.

3. Vanilla Plus Subscription

Vanilla offers a premium subscription called "Vanilla Plus" that unlocks additional features including unlimited AI chats, expanded coupon slots, full nutrition data, calendar sync, advanced list sharing, and an ad-free experience.

  • Vanilla Plus is available as a monthly subscription at $4.99/month
  • Subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store and are subject to Apple's terms
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period
  • You can manage and cancel your subscription through your Apple ID settings
  • Refunds are handled according to Apple's refund policies

4. AI Helper Service

The Vanilla AI Helper ("AI Helper") is provided as an informational tool to assist with recipe ideas, cooking tips, and grocery planning. Important disclaimers:

  • AI-generated content is for informational purposes only and should not be treated as professional dietary, medical, or nutritional advice
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI responses
  • Free users receive a limited number of daily AI chats; Vanilla Plus subscribers receive unlimited chats
  • We reserve the right to modify or limit AI features at any time
  • You should not rely on AI suggestions for allergy-critical decisions

5. Price Estimates

Vanilla provides estimated grocery prices based on average 2026 U.S. grocery market data. These estimates:

  • Are approximations and may not reflect actual prices at your local store
  • May vary by region, season, store, and product brand
  • Should not be used as a definitive budgeting tool
  • Are provided "as is" without warranty of accuracy

6. Shared Lists

Vanilla allows you to share grocery lists with other users. By using the sharing feature:

  • You acknowledge that shared list data will be visible to invited members
  • You are responsible for managing who has access to your shared lists
  • We are not liable for actions taken by other users on shared lists
  • You can leave shared lists or revoke access at any time

7. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services including Google Firebase, Spoonacular, Open Food Facts, OpenRouter/Qura, and Apple frameworks. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and conditions. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content provided by third-party services.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, features, and functionality of the App — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, and software — are the property of Vanilla and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the App without express written consent.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vanilla and its developers shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Loss of data, revenue, or profits arising from use of the App
  • Errors or inaccuracies in price estimates, nutritional data, or AI-generated content
  • Interruptions, delays, or failures in service
  • Actions of other users, including on shared lists

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

11. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through the App's settings. Upon deletion:

  • Your account and personal data will be permanently removed
  • Any active Vanilla Plus subscription should be cancelled separately through Apple
  • Shared list associations will be removed
  • This action is irreversible

12. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through the App or our website. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
